WHITE
2019 The Mimi Semillon
Hunter Valley Dry White
This single site Semillon was hand-selected and curated by our son’s godparents from their remarkable 50+ year-old planting at Dark Horse Vineyard. The wine is named in loving memory of our maternal and paternal grandmothers who, by coincidence, shared the same name. One was a bold matriarch – espousing character, conviction and ideologies predating her time. The other a loving, pure, soft and gentle soul who raised nine children and cared, not for herself, but only others. Both very different, but so unique. They will be forever remembered, loved and missed.
2017 The Mimi Semillon
Hunter Valley Dry White
Semillon is the show piece variety from the Hunter Valley. 2017 was a positive year in the Hunter for the white varieties (as well as the red). Toward the end of January 2017, there were a number of rain events in what was, overall a very hot January. This brought forward harvesting a little earlier than usual to ensure the preservation of the fruit’s natural acidity. This wine exhibits straw in colour with a lime hue. On the nose there is an aroma of lemon, lime and grapefruit which is exacerbated during tasting. Depending on how you like your ‘sem’ this one will drink at least to 2037. We have had been inundated with compliments of those who have paired this wine with seafood and spicy shellfish.
In loving memory of our maternal and paternal Grandmothers, who by coincidence shared the same name. One a bold matriarch with strong character and conviction who was ahead of her time. The other a loving and gentle lady with a generous heart. Both of them live on through our families and now through our wine.
2020 La Eleonora Grüner Veltliner
2020 will be remembered globally far the pandemic, across Australia far natural disasters, and by our family far the loss of Eleonora Chiarella.
“Nonna” was a gifted cook, gardener, seamstress and lady of faith. Born 19 March 1929 experiencing the Great Depression, World War 2 and migrating to Australia in 1956, she was a hard working mother of 3 boys, generous to all, and proud of her family.
Similar to La Silas award winning “di Giovanni” Riesling- named after her husband – we are pleased to present another uncustomary, but very much suited variety to the Hunter.
Nonno and Nonna endured and overcame adverslty. May their stories inspire and motivate us all in these difficult times.
2018 di Giovanni Riesling
A foreign variety to the Hunter Valley, this wine encompasses the zesty lemon and lime characteristics that Hunter Valley whites are renowned for but also demonstrates the complexities and elegance akin to the variety’s European genesis.
The 2018 Hunter Valley Vintage was another excellent year for producers. Riesling is an uncommon variety to the region, however the site in which this fruit is sourced has consistently produced delicate, and even award-winning Riesling. It exhibits a pale straw colour, lemon blossom on the nose, with mineral lime at the front and an acidic finish. The wine will age well: for those who enjoy an aged Riesling try and lay these down… if you can.
Giovanni Chiarella gave our family the opportunity to flourish in Australia. He taught us to respect and embrace our new home, its people and culture with the benefit of our Italian heritage. For everything that we have achieved and continue to achieve, we thank him.
2021 Nonna Chardonnay
Chardonnay, she’s the bold matriarch of the Hunter Valley.
With an ever-watchful eye, she sees everything, she remains true to her powerful façade assumed by most but has a soft buttery touch only known to those who adore her.
Demonstrating Hunter Chardonnay’s renaissance, she is built to cut through creamy pastas, seafoods and risottos.
ROSÉ
2021 The Francis Rosé
2019 The Francis Rosé
Named after our cheeky, independent and strong-minded Tante – loved Sister, Aunt, Great-Aunt and Godmother. Her final days were spent in the rural beauty of the La Sila Homestead, reminiscent of the countryside of her youth in South Africa. Born in Durban, Francis Minnie Reynolds migrated to Sydney in 1971.
She was a career woman with a wicked sense of humour, appreciated good food and wine, loved to play cards and board games and was “the” authority on soap operas and fiction.
She was the ultimate influencer. With a direct and firm manner she never hesitated to offer her opinion on absolutely everything. Francis shaped minds and helped many people without them ever knowing it. Her inimitable presence is sorely missed.
Like its namesake this Rosé is bold and beautiful.

2017 The EDWARD – Limited Stock
Single Vineyard Hunter Valley Dry Red
The 2017 Vintage experienced weather patterns which many say lend themselves to the year being one of the best in living memory, bearing in mind of course the 2011 and the ‘grand’ vintage of 2014. During the ’17 vintage, the mercury climbed to 46.8 degrees on 11 February, being shortly prior to harvest. That heat, aided by short and intermittent rain events, caused a more ‘riper’ fruit and subsequently a Shiraz that is deeper in colour and body than the Hunter norm. Whilst the region is renowned for producing ‘medium body’ red wines, the Edward is a “bigger” style. It is a darker ruby red in the glass, and has a plum and light oak nose. It is elegant on the palate with mulberries, black current, blueberry and other intense black and red fruit which are supported by firm tannins. The wine is elegant and very complex, it may be drunk now or laid down for at least 5-10 years.
